exhibition - 'catalogue' adelaide fringe 2009, lipson cafe
An exhibition exploring the personal documentation of life’s journey through photography.
I recently rediscovered my love for photography when I dusted off my beloved 35mm SLR and took it with me overseas last year. (Despite the challenge of finding slide film in China!) I remembered how there was a time when my camera accompanied me everywhere. In August 2001 I bid on and won, Lot #87 at an auction for two dollars. It was a bay of slide storage boxes, which unbeknown to me still housed the previous photographer’s slide collection.
After the initial voyeuristic intrigue, I was left feeling quite empty. Someone’s memories, a photographic catalogue of their life had been sold to a perfect stranger for two dollars. Certain parallels between this individual’s life and their approach to photography mirrored my own and haunted me. My obsession of photographing everything stopped.
In this collection of images I have revisited my love of taking a photo. Starting with shots from my travels.
